Constellation Hub

What is the
Constellation Hub?

In logistics, hubs are nodes at which goods from the periphery are brought together in order to redistribute them. A USB hub is a device that distributes the USB signal to multiple ports. In innovation research, hubs are collection points for people who work on new topics and exchange ideas in order to find something new in terms of content. Kitchen hubs bring people from different cultures together to develop a whole new dish from the food they bring with them. Our Constellation Hub brings together people who have experienced, or want to experience, how constellations can be used to lure the flash of inspiration. And the flash of inspiration always hits the prepared mind who knows its subject very well. In colleges there are many well-prepared spirits who have excellent knowledge of their subjects. In this sense, the Constellation Hub wants to be a magnet for the people in universities who want to jointly create a space in which system constellations can be a self-evident method of disciplinary, interdisciplinary and especially transdisciplinary communication for gaining new knowledge and new experiences.

The big topics that occupied constellation users in the university system seem to be very similar to those of the constellation scene in therapy and counselling. In fact, there is also this uncertainty for us about what we actually do when we use representative perception to gain knowledge. Dealing with ignorance in research and teaching has repeatedly brought us back to the requirement of understanding systemic constellations as an attitude. Well, designing a conceptual system for the constellation process ensures the ability to connect to the prevailing paradigms of research and teaching, to understand constellation management as a skill, points out that under the complex conditions it is increasingly important to allow an artistic expression with the help of constellations and intuition in addition to scientific expression with the help of rationality. Perhaps it would also lead to other insights if we understood statistics as a skill in dealing with ignorance and the invisible?

What do we want and can we contribute to the discovery process in a Constellation Hub? Constellations open up the space between proven science with its objectified ways of thinking and methods on the one hand and the potential of subjective experience on the other. Because we need both, and because space contains many places for our action, the Constellation Hub discussion has revolved around the potential of spatial language for research and teaching from the outset. Can we define a conceptual system around spatial language that allows individual experiences to be decisive? And when individual experiences lead to new insights, then man with his potentials again has a new meaning in the triangle of forms of expression of insight: science, art and spirituality.

At the end of the first Constellation Hub in October 2017 at the University of Bremen with 15 participants from the higher education sector, there was a term in the room that refers to something new: Emergence Competence. What is meant by this is: What dispositions do we as researchers and teachers have to bring with us in order to create a performance that shows what is currently emerging? With this emergence competence, we may perhaps come closer to the presumptions of how the new comes into the world. What applies to the Constellation Hub was recognized by Saint Exupéry many years ago and is often used as a saying: There are no solutions in life. There are forces in motion: they must be created; the solutions follow.

The current dates of the Constellation Hub can be found in the event notes.
